PM Modi meets yoga practitioners and other influential people in Kuwait


Shaikha A. J. Al-Sabah is the founder of Daratma, the first licensed yoga studio in Kuwait.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met with Sheikha A. J. Al-Sabah, an avid yoga practitioner and founder of the first licensed Daratma yoga studio in Kuwait, and other influential people from the Gulf country.

Prime Minister Modi, who arrived here on Saturday on a two-day visit – the first by an Indian prime minister to the Gulf nation in 43 years – also met Fahad Ghazi Alabduljalil, president of the Kuwait Heritage Society, and praised his work for preservation of rare manuscripts and artifacts.

“Met with Her Holiness Sheikha AJ Al-Sabah in Kuwait. She was noted for her passion for yoga and fitness. She started her own yoga and wellness studio which is quite popular in Kuwait. We talked about ways to make yoga more popular among the youth,” PM Modi wrote on X.

They discussed ways to further popularize yoga, especially among young people, the Prime Minister’s office reported.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that Sheikha A. J. Al-Sabah is an avid yoga practitioner and founder of Daratma, the first licensed yoga studio in Kuwait.

“They exchanged views on promoting a healthy lifestyle through meditation and yoga and ways to deepen the India-Kuwaiti people-to-people connection,” he said in a post on X.

Prime Minister Modi met Alabduljalil, President of the Kuwait Heritage Society and appreciated his work in preserving rare manuscripts and artefacts related to Kuwait and India and in strengthening India-Kuwaiti historical ties.

“In Kuwait, I met Mr. Fahad Ghazi Alabduljalil, who is respected for his passion for culture and history. He is also connected to India, his ancestors were connected to Surat, Mumbai and Kozhikode,” PM Modi said in another post on X. .

Their discussions touched on the rich historical ties between India and Kuwait, the Prime Minister’s Office said.

Kuwait also honored Prime Minister Modi with its highest award – the “Order of Mubarak Al-Kabir” – for his role in strengthening good relations between the two countries.
